Humanitarian, Health and Emergency Logistics

Humanitarian, Health and Emmergency Logistics

Welcome to Certification in Humanitarian Medical Logistics Practices. In this course, we will be taking you through the world of humanitarian aid and specifically the provision of medical aid through the planning and operation of the logistics and supply chain.

The course looks at the various types of medical programmes, and the main characteristics of these

programmes, and how these impact on the design and operation of the supply chain. The course identifies the characteristics of the medical items that are used in medical programmes and their significant implications to the planning and operation of the supply chain.

Medical programmes and the supply of medical items place certain requirements on the supply chain process. An existing supply chain may not always be able to meet these requirements and will need changes to its design and/or operation to meet the requirements of medical programmes. We will consider  what  these requirements are  and  what barriers  and  constraints  there may be  to supplying, storing and transporting medical items used in medical programmes.

The aim of the programme is to provide an understanding of the scope of a medical supply chain and the specific supply chain characteristics and features that are required to meet the requirements of medical aid programmes, and the medical items used in these programmes.
